Program description

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) certificate program at Humber is a full-time, intensive academic pathway program. The program combines academic focus with reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. You will also gain study skills and customized tutoring assistance. The curriculum is designed for non-native English speakers who wish to improve their writing, communication, and critical thinking abilities in preparation for admission to college diploma, degree, and graduate certificate programs, as well as for further professional development.

It is made up of:

  • 8 levels that each run for 8 weeks. The length of study will be based on the assigned entry level which is determined by the English proficiency test results.
  • 18 hours per week of in-class and online instruction (blended learning).
  • additional hours every week completing computer assisted language learning (CALL) activities including additional reading activities, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and digital literacy skills under the guidance of a Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) certified lab co-ordinator

Our faculty members are dedicated experts who have spent many years teaching, publishing, and working in the English as a Second Language ESL/EAP field. They all have graduate degrees and extensive experience teaching ESL/EAP.

Improving your language skills in the EAP program also allows you to become acquainted with Humber teachers, staff, administration, and campus life. The Humber community will help you make the transition into your future academic studies at Humber.

Our advisory council reviews and contributes to our curriculum on a regular basis, ensuring that our program is always on the cutting edge of post-secondary and industry advances.

Students in EAP Levels 7 and 8 have the option to take these levels fully online.
